Important News on OSHA's Global Harmonization Standard Training

TAHRA has recently become aware that all PHA's are required to comply with OSHA's Global Harmonization Standard (GHS) requirements adopted under the Hazard Communication Standard by December 1, 2013. The new standard requires every maintenance employee be certified with the new standard by the December 1 deadline. 
 
We will be offering a "Train the Trainer" session in Murfreesboro, Knoxville, and Jackson for each housing authority to send one person who will then be certified to train all maintenance staff at your agency. 
 
The training will be conducted by David Britton, Practical Solutions Consulting. The training will include comprehensive training and each participant will be provided with the necessary training materials to enable them to train other staff within their respective locations to meet the requirements of the Global Harmonization Standard (GHS). 
 
The "Train the Trainer" manual will include:

• Global Harmonization Trainer training materials including speaker notes
• Proposed training slides for participants
• Sample safety data sheets and container labels reflecting changes of labeling requirements
• Hazard rating system changes
• Sample training sign-in-sheets

Each housing authority represented will receive a wall poster of required pictograms utilized in GHS requirements for posting near their chemical storage locations. If additional wall charts are needed, they are available at $10 each and should be ordered while registering on-line.
 
Practical Solutions Consulting will provide wallet card certifications for the locations if requested. The cost is $7 per 10 wallet cards and should be ordered while registering on-line. We do recommend wallet card certifications for each maintenance employee.
 
It is suggested that each attendee bring a copy of their Master chemical list for their authority.

Registration at each location will begin at 9:00 am with the class beginning at 9:30 and end at noon. The cost is $95, which includes the above materials and refreshment breaks.  Registration is available on-line at www.regonline.com/globalharmonizationstandard. Registration will close on October 24, 2013.
