William Hershel Thrasher Retires from Shelbyville Housing Authority

William Hershel Thrasher, Executive Director of the Shelbyville Housing Authority, retired in June after 28 years of service. He spent his early career in sales, marketing, and leasing before joining the Shelbyville Housing Authority as Deputy Director in 1992. He has been the housing authority's Executive Director since 1993.

Some may not know that Mr. Thrasher served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Gearing (DD-710) as a Sonar Specialist E-5, and was granted a top secret security clearance for nuclear warhead work on anti-submarine rockets. He also worked at Marshall Space Flight Center testing ground support equipment for Apollo missions.

Mr. Thrasher is a graduate of Middle TN State University with a major in Marketing, and a minor in Economics and Accounting. He is a member of SERC-NAHRO and TAHRA. He served as Trustee on the Board of PHADA since 1997, where he filled various committee appointments and served as Vice President of Membership 2018-2019. Mr. Thrasher will be missed at the housing authority, but looks forward to traveling, spending time with his nine grandchildren, and continuing to work on the affordable housing needs in our great community!
